M-Net Tag award for Best Animation
Congratulations to JOHAN TALJAARD and to Nina Torr and Marinda Botha that guided Johan in his stop motion PSA for winning the M-Net Tag award for Best Animation! It was also nominated for the 'Best Use Of Humour' award. The PSA ad will be flighted on DSTV for the whole of 2013.

Design a Car competition
Our own Christian Siebert (1st year) is one of four finalists for the Design a Car competition! He designed a Jaguar C-XB:He competed with more than 50 other entrants, many who have years of industry experience. The four finalists' designs have been sent to be judged by Jaguar designer Wayne Burgess. Burgess will choose the winner who will be announced in the January 2013 issue of CAR magazine (on sale 17 December 2012). The winner's creation will be converted into a 3D model to appear in a short film by Luma, along with a car created by CAR's own staff. The winner will also receive an internship at Cape Town’s …XYZ DESIGN Studios where he/she will be exposed to the realities of work as a product designer. Christian, we are all truly proud of you!!
National Zoological Gardens
Congratulations to our third year Film students who entered the National Zoological Gardens advertisement campaign. 12 of the 15 have been selected to have their advertisements screened in NuMetro and on Mango airlines during December and January.
Mnet TAG AWARDS
Congratulations to all three students that entered the Mnet TAG awards.
All three, Annike Piennaar, Franqi van Niekerk and Johann Taljaard have all been selected to be screened on Mnet during 2013. Johann Taljaard in addition is up for an award during the upcoming ceremony.
Makhulu Polane (Moerse Random) Design Competition

The 2012 Makhulu Polane T-Shirt Design Winner. He gets R20 000 cash for winning design, Liquid Legs, which was waaay out there and fit the theme of Moerse Random perfectly. Kevin's design will also be sold in-store @ Big Blue
Motion Picture Academy Nicholl Fellowship

Five writers have been selected as winners of the 2012 Academy Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting competition. Each writer will receive a $35,000 prize, the first installment of which will be distributed at a gala dinner in Beverly Hills on November 8.

The winners were selected from a record 7,197 scripts submitted for this year's competition. This is the first time entries from Louisiana and South Africa have been selected as winners.
Large On the Lawn
Congratulations to Stephan Calitz and the following 2nd year AV Studies students (Stephen Bester, Daniel Botha, Jaku vd Heever) who won a competition launched by WVlive to create an advert for the Large On the Lawn music festival at the end of October. They received R6000 in prize money and their commercial is currently being screened on MK.
NOKIA music video competition
Congratulations to three groups of 3rd year Film Television students that just won first, second and third prizes in a national NOKIA music video competition.Awards were handed out today and included 4 HD Go-Pro cameras, 5 Nokia Lumia smartphones, and 12 Nokia Blackberries.
Students involved were:

• Second Prize: Gareth Pon and his team
• Third Prize: Joh-Lize Swanepoel and her team
Congratulations also to Christoff Durr, Neil Human and Elne Potgieter who entered the 48hr Film Project in Johannesburg and who won the Favourite Audience Film and Best Title Sequence.

SILVERSKERM AWARDS
Armand Fourie
Was selected as one of ten entries into the kykNET Silwerskerm Competition. The competition was open nationwide to professionals in the film and television industry, and aimed to gather the ten best Afrikaans, 30-minute screenplays which kykNET will finance and broadcast. Armandt won with the short film screenplay, 'STUT'. The film goes into production in the next two months and will be broadcast later in the year.
Antalis Paper Loves Student awards

We are proud to announce that The Open Window took 1st and 2nd place at the Antalis Paper Loves Student awards. Congratulations to these two Comm Design students who enthralled the judges with their Corporate Identity designs!
Antalis annually invites all design institutions in South Africa to enter ten of their best students. In total there were 98 student entries nationwide. To take gold and silver is an astonishing achievement and shows that The Open Window is a leading force in creativity and inspiration!
