DEPARTMENT: Fundamentals
Position:  Associate Lecturer: Drawing & Narrative (full-time)

The Open Window (OW) is an accredited private higher education institution recognised for setting innovative standards in the field of visual arts and digital sciences. Founded in 1994, OW has a focus on providing a unique tertiary platform where practice-led tuition links traditional fine art practice with the applied arts. Emphasis is placed on continual innovation within curricula to maintain relevance in the rapidly evolving creative arts industries. Many Open Window lecturers, in addition to their academic roles, are actively engaged in creative practice – and we encourage our lecturers to maintain their industry links. Our investment in highly qualified and industry-relevant staff is deemed critical in directing our students in work-integrated learning projects of value.

Department of Fundamentals at Open Window

The successful candidate will join enthusiastic academics and professionals in The Open Window’s Fundamentals Department, which oversees subjects like Academic Practice, Media Perspectives, Drawing & Narrative, Film Theory, Visual Culture, Research Foundation and Professional Practice.
These subjects are relevant to and attended by students from all four schools at Open Window: Animation Arts, Creative Technologies, Film Arts and Visual Communication.

Drawing & Narrative at Open Window

The Drawing & Narrative subject balances important technical drawing skills with creative application and communication of story and narrative. The subject teaches students how to communicate visually using drawing, which can also serve as a method to convey storytelling.

For the Associate lecturer in Drawing & Narrative, there is also a need for the candidate to offer support to the level 1 theory subjects such as Media Perspectives and Academic Practice since these are large subjects which around 300+ students are enrolled for per subject per year.
For these subjects, occasional assistance can for example take the form of additional student feedback during writing workshops, and/or hosting student group feedback or Q&A sessions.

Software Requirements:

  • Basic understanding of office and administrative software such as Microsoft Word and Excel. At Open Window we make use of the Google Suite software such as Google Docs, Google Sheets and Google Slides. If the candidate is more familiar with Microsoft Office software and not Google Suite software, this is no concern since the skills applied to Microsoft software are transferable to the Google Suite software.
