The focus is on fun and catharsis\, as well as a judgement-free approach where imperfection is not only accepted but encouraged as part of the creative process. Get as ugly and scrappy as you want. \nWe will be supplying all necessary materials\, but if you’d like even more customisation\, please bring any little trinkets/buttons/patches that you might incorporate into your doll. SUMMARY:Watch and Learn: Intro to Mouldmaking
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text uncode_shortcode_id=”140324″]During this class you will observe how Allen Laing creates a mould that can be used to cast multiple reproductions of a sculptural object. Mouldmaking is used in many arts and crafts\, including bronze casting\, ceramics and toymaking. The specific technique being taught is a multi-part silicone skin and hard shell mould. Allen will be explaining the process and answering questions as he works\, as well as giving tips and tricks learned from experience. \n  \nParticipants also have the opportunity to bring a small\, simple object and create their own one-part fully silicone mould. This will only work with objects that are smaller than 4x4x4cm\, are fairly smooth and symmetrical\, and don’t have any thin parts protruding. For example\, a tooth would work fairly well\, but a toy soldier would not.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

The conference will provide a platform for knowledge-sharing\, practical workshops\, and panel discussions that address challenges and opportunities in art education. \nDate: Friday\, 28 August\nRSVP by  Friday\, 21 August \nVenue: Open Window\, Johannesburg Campus\nCatering: Lunch \nTheme Exploration in the Programme: \nThe Co-Creation and Creativity: Arts Education in Dialogue Part 2 programme will explore multiple topics\, including curriculum co-creation with students\, learner-centred education and approaches to well-being\, collaborative techniques in creativity\, and co-creating with AI. \nCo-Creation and Creativity offers the platform for educators to consider: How do learners shape or inform their own learning? How does the curriculum respond to or adapt itself around learners? To what extent are we as educators continuously evolving to meet the needs of our learners? This topic is pressing as it engages with the phenomenon of ‘the individual’ and the growing demand for an individualised approach to education. It foregrounds pedagogical approaches which prioritise student autonomy and agency\, their subjective experiences and perspectives\, and self-directed learning. This phenomenon further entails curriculum diversity and flexibility. How can we empower ourselves as educators to navigate set curriculum parameters\, whether governmental or privately determined? How can we collaborate cross-institutionally for the benefit of educators and students alike? \nAs educators\, we acknowledge the extent to which learning and creativity are\, in fact\, always collaborative\, whether it be between groups and individuals\, or between people and technology\, online platforms\, and tools. Particularly relevant to co-creating with technology is the promotion of active learning alongside AI rather than blindly depending on it.
