Orientation 2021
DATES:
To ensure that the safety of our students is kept at the forefront of our planning; students will be divided into groups of 25-35 according to their majors and will be required to attend a one-day orientation on Campus and not a full week as previously communicated.
Orientation for 2021 will commence from 15 February – 12 March.
Please do not attend a day if you are not assigned to it.
DEGREE STUDENTS: Divided into groups from the 15 February – 26 February.
CERTIFICATE and CERTIFICATE PLUS STUDENTS: Divided into groups from the 26 February – 15 March
GROUPING OF STUDENTS FOR ONE-DAY ORIENTATION:
The groups are set up according to major selections to enable them to meet their lecturers in person before classes commence, and to have an opportunity to meet students that will be walking the journey with them during the first year. If you have not completed the link to confirm your final Major/Subject selections, you will not yet be divided into a group – please contact your Student Advisor if you dod not receive a copy of this link.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS AND THOSE TRAVELLING FROM OUTSIDE OF GAUTENG:
As this will take place physically on campus, no online orientation will be available. Please note that Orientation is compulsory for all new students to attend and we advise all international students as well as those outside of Gauteng to get in touch with your Student Advisor if you haven’t secured accommodation for 2021 or will not be able to join the groups scheduled from the 15th of February until the 19th of February 2021
WHEN WILL I RECEIVE MY UNIQUE DATE?
Your Student Advisor will be in contact 2 – 3 days prior your scheduled attendance to confirm if the date is still suitable, Open Window will also release SMS’s daily to inform students of their unique date and grouping 2 days prior their scheduled date.
WHAT WILL BE DISCUSSED AT ORIENTATION?
*The following will be issued and discussed :
- Subject information sessions
- Meet your lecturer
- Campus tour to introduce you to the available facilities
- Yearbook session to cover the study route in detail
- Meet the OW staff who will be assisting you in Student Support, Finance and our Library.
- Timetables – how to navigate the world of tertiary classes
- Invitation and assistance to access and use CANVAS – our Student Academic Portal
- Open Windows Digital Platforms (Google Classroom, G-Suite, CANVAS)
- Your Welcome Pack (This will be physically issued during Orientation)
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING TO ORIENTATION?
No preparation required. Bring yourself and something to eat during the lunch break. We will have food available for purchase at our Cafeteria as well.
IS THERE A DRESS CODE?
You may wear what you want. There is no dress code.
WHAT TIME WILL WE START AND AT WHAT TIME CAN WE EXPECT TO BE DONE ON ORIENTATION DAY?
Sessions take place from 8:30 – 15:30 daily with an hour lunch break.
COVID REGULATIONS:
- NO MASK, NO ENTRY – Students are required to wear a mask at all times on Campus
- Sanitising stations have been prepared in venues for students perusal
- A sign-in station at our main gate: student will be required to check their temperatures at our main gate and sign in before receiving admission to Campus.
- All staff and students are checked daily to ensure the safety of all on-campus attendees.
