Design has the power to bring a message to life, engaging diverse audiences in all corners of the world and making a positive impact on their lives. While communicating across borders using universal terms, these images all address the same challenge: being equally understood by people of different cultures who speak different languages. Major geopolitical milestones in human rights, development, justice and environment are distilled into eye-catching visuals, from posters and logos to book covers and social media visuals, depicting ideas and values that are timeless. Through them, we gain a fresh perspective on the human condition.

Matías Delfino (Argentina) is a United Nations international civil servant who has been working for the Organization as a graphic designer in New York (USA) since 2000. Matías discovered his interest in social design at the age of 21, when, as a student at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), he was assigned a project: to design a series of public service announcements for UNICEF to raise awareness about child abandonment. The search for information for this project brought him to the UNICEF / UNITED NATIONS offices in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was this revealing experience that moved Matías to start considering the possibility of devoting his professional life to the use of graphic design as a tool for social change. During these last 17 years, his creations have reached the United Nations' 193 member states.
