Guest Talk: Reuben Heydenrych

Reuben trained in Landscape Architecture and Environmental Science and has a career in environmental consulting. He has been hiking and spending time in nature since varsity and has regularly explored the Magaliesberg and various other wild landscapes. He has had a life-long love affair with trees and plants.

His love for the Magaliesberg led him to write “A Field Guide to Magaliesberg Trees” (published in 2018), a photographic guide to tree identification.

He is currently revising this book and contributing to the development of “Trees of the Waterberg”. He lives out his passion for photography in this pursuit too. He is currently doing fieldwork towards a PhD on the forests of the Magaliesberg and Waterberg mountain ranges. Besides his love for trees of the forests, he also has a particular appreciation for the tree survivors of arid regions like the Richtersveld.
